How to choose software for an awning or shutter business (Australia, 2026)
If you sell awnings or shutters, the software that works for a blinds shop will probably let you down. Here is how I would choose, after 16 years in window furnishings.

The short answer: pick software that quotes from your real supplier price lists, handles motorisation, frame options and site conditions inside the quote, and takes deposits in the same place. Then check that the vendor builds it for you, shows prices upfront and lets you leave month to month. Ask for all of it in writing.
Why awnings and shutters break generic tools
I have spent 16 years in window furnishings. The same thing happens every time an awning or shutter business tries a generic quoting tool or a spreadsheet.
A blind is mostly width, drop and fabric. An awning or shutter job has a lot more going on:
- Motorisation. Motor type, remote or wall control, sensors, wiring and power supply all change the price.
- Frame and hardware options. Frame colour, hinged or bi-fold layouts, louvre size, mounts and brackets all have their own rules.
- Site conditions. Wall type, fixing surface, height off the ground and access all change the install. A quote that ignores them turns into a margin problem later.
- Long lead times. The job can be weeks from deposit to install, so you are tracking orders and customers for a long time.
- Deposits. Bigger jobs need a deposit before you order anything. Chasing that by phone or email is slow.
A generic tool treats all of that as notes in a text box. Then someone rebuilds the price by hand. That is where double entering and wrong quotes come from.
What good looks like
When you look at any option, check these things.
- It quotes from your price lists. Your supplier prices, your markups and your option rules should sit in the system. Nobody should be retyping them.
- Rules live in the product. If a motor needs a certain bracket, the system should know. It should not rely on someone remembering.
- It checks the quote. An AI quote checker that flags a missing option or a wrong deduction before the customer sees it saves you from the worst kind of mistake.
- It works on site. You should be able to quote at the property, on a phone, tablet or laptop. If you go back to the office to finish, you are quoting at night.
- Payments are built in. A payment link for the deposit means you can ask for it while you are still standing in the driveway.
- It talks to your accounting. Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks should be connected, so nobody keys the same invoice twice.
To see how this looks for each product, we have pages on awning quoting software and shutter quoting software. If you sell across the whole range, start with window furnishings software.
The onboarding reality
This is the part owners worry about most, and I understand why. Most of the people I talk to say the same thing. They know their current setup is hurting, but moving feels like chaos. So they put it off.
That is why we do the work for you. You send us your price lists and product details, and we build the system. You get a named team: Min, Renee and Tristan. You get a Slack channel, so you can ask a question and get an answer from a person. We check in weekly.
For retail businesses, we are typically live in two to three weeks from when we get your price lists. That depends on how quickly the price lists arrive and how many ranges you sell.
Manufacturing is different, and I will not give you a fixed number. It depends on the scale of your operation, the range of products and any custom integrations. Be careful of any vendor who gives you one tidy number for a complex factory.
Pricing you should be able to see
You should know the cost before you book a call. Here is ours in Australia.
- Setup: A$950, one time.
- Monthly: A$250 a month, including one user.
- Extra users: A$130 a month each.
- Installers: they do not need a paid seat. You can send them measure and install sheets without a login.
- Contract: month to month. You can leave.
The numbers are on our pricing page any time. When a vendor will not share prices until you have sat through a sales process, ask yourself why.
Questions to ask any vendor
Take this list to every demo, ours included.
- Can you show me a motorised awning quote with my own price list in it, not a demo product?
- How are frame, colour and motor option rules handled? Who sets them up?
- What happens to the quote if my supplier changes prices? Can I upload the new list and have it read for me?
- Can I take a deposit by payment link from the quote?
- Who does the setup, and who will I actually talk to? Can I have their names?
- How long for a business like mine, and what does it depend on?
- What is the total cost in year one, including setup and every user?
- Do I sign a contract? What happens if I want to leave?
- Which accounting systems are connected, and how?
- Can I speak to a customer who sells what I sell?
If you are weighing us against one specific vendor, our Quoterite vs BlinQ comparison lays it out side by side.
When to book a demo
If you quote awnings or shutters every week, and the paperwork is slowing you down, it is worth a look. A demo takes less time than a quote does. You can see it with your own products in mind and ask every question on the list above.
